Collection: Saint Romanos the Melodist

Saint Romanos the Melodist (c. 490–556) is one of the greatest hymnographers of the Orthodox Church, composer of over a thousand kontakia — poetic homilies set to music. Born in Syria, he served as a deacon in Constantinople, where the Theotokos appeared to him in a vision and granted him the gift of sacred song. His most beloved work is the Akathist Hymn to the Theotokos. He is celebrated on October 1. Our handcrafted collection honors his memory through Byzantine devotional items, each made in our Ohio workshop using traditional techniques.
