Saint Tsar Lazar of Serbia

Saint Tsar Lazar of Serbia (1329–1389) was the last ruler of the Nemanjić dynasty, remembered for his piety, justice, and ultimate sacrifice at the Battle of Kosovo in 1389. Choosing the heavenly kingdom over the earthly one, he led the Serbian army against the Ottoman forces and was martyred on the battlefield. His relics are venerated at the Ravanica Monastery, which he founded, and he is celebrated as a holy martyr in the Serbian Orthodox Church. His feast day is observed on June 15th (Old Style) / June 28th (New Style). A central figure in Serbian spiritual identity, Tsar Lazar embodies the Kosovo covenant — faithfulness to God above all earthly kingdoms.
