Saint Tikhon of Moscow

Saint Tikhon of Moscow (1865–1925) was the first Patriarch of Moscow after the restoration of the patriarchate in 1917. Born Vasily Belavin, he served as a missionary bishop in North America, where he founded churches, established an orphanage, and laid the groundwork for Orthodox Christianity in the New World. Elected Patriarch during the turbulent years of the Russian Revolution, he courageously guided the Church through persecution, famine, and political upheaval, refusing to compromise the faith. He died under house arrest in 1925 and was glorified as a saint in 1989. Commemorated on April 7th (New Style), Saint Tikhon is revered as a confessor and steadfast shepherd of the Church.
