Saint Theodore Ushakov

Saint Theodore Ushakov (1745–1817) was one of the most distinguished admirals in Russian naval history and is venerated as a saint in the Russian Orthodox Church. Renowned for his brilliant naval victories during the Russo-Turkish wars and the Mediterranean campaign, he never lost a single battle. Beyond his military prowess, Admiral Ushakov was known for his deep Orthodox faith, attending divine liturgy before every engagement and treating prisoners of war with Christian compassion. After retiring from naval service, he devoted himself to prayer and charitable works, living near the Sanaksar Monastery. Glorified as a saint in 2004, he is commemorated on October 2nd (New Style) and is revered as a protector of naval personnel.
