Saint Stephen the Great

Saint Stephen the Great (1433–1504) was the Prince of Moldavia and one of the greatest Orthodox rulers of the medieval era, defending his Christian homeland against Ottoman, Polish, and Hungarian invasions for nearly half a century. He built dozens of churches and monasteries after each victory as acts of thanksgiving to God, and was called “the Great” by Pope Sixtus IV himself. Glorified by the Romanian Orthodox Church in 1992, his feast day is celebrated on July 2. Our handcrafted collection honors his memory through Byzantine embroidered icons and devotional items, each made in our Ohio workshop using traditional techniques.
