Collection: Saint Nectarios of Aegina
Saint Nectarios of Aegina (1846–1920) is one of the most beloved and widely venerated saints of the modern Orthodox Church, a great hierarch, theologian, and wonderworker whose miracles continue to this day. Born Anastasios Kephalas in Silyvria, Thrace, he rose to become Metropolitan of Pentapolis in Egypt before being unjustly removed from his position through slander and intrigue. He bore this humiliation with extraordinary patience and forgiveness.
Saint Nectarios spent the latter part of his life in Greece, serving as director of the Rizarios Ecclesiastical School in Athens and eventually founding a convent on the island of Aegina, where he reposed in 1920. He was known for his deep humility, his tireless pastoral care, his prolific theological writings, and his extraordinary gifts of healing and clairvoyance.
Saint Nectarios was glorified as a saint by the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 1961 and is venerated throughout the Orthodox world as a great intercessor, especially for those suffering from cancer and serious illness. His feast day is November 9.
