Saint Joseph the Betrothed

Saint Joseph the Betrothed (1st century BC – 1st century AD) was the righteous husband of the Most Holy Theotokos and the earthly guardian and protector of the Lord Jesus Christ. A descendant of the royal line of King David, he was a carpenter in Nazareth who was chosen by God to be the chaste protector of the Virgin Mary and the foster father of the incarnate Son of God.

Saint Joseph received the Angel's announcement of the miraculous conception of Christ, protected the Holy Family during the flight into Egypt, and raised the Lord Jesus in the faith and traditions of Israel. He is venerated in the Orthodox Church as a righteous man of extraordinary faith, humility, and obedience to God's will.

Saint Joseph is commemorated on the Sunday after the Nativity of Christ, together with King David and the Apostle James, as one of those who stood closest to the mystery of the Incarnation. He is a beloved patron of fathers, workers, and families.
