Collection: Saint John the Warrior
Saint John the Warrior (d. c. 4th–5th century) was a Roman soldier who secretly aided persecuted Christians during a time of imperial persecution, helping prisoners escape, comforting the suffering, and burying the martyrs. Though outwardly serving the pagan emperor, he devoted his life entirely to Christ and to the care of the poor and afflicted.
After his death, Saint John appeared in a vision to a pious woman, revealing the location of his buried body and requesting that it be given a Christian burial. His relics were found incorrupt and became a source of miracles. He is especially venerated as a powerful intercessor for those who have been robbed, for the recovery of lost items, and for those suffering injustice.
Saint John the Warrior is beloved throughout the Orthodox world, particularly in Russia, where countless faithful have experienced his miraculous intercession. His feast day is July 30.
