Saint John of Kronstadt

Saint John of Kronstadt (1829–1908), born Ivan Ilyich Sergiev, was a married parish priest, archpriest, and one of the most beloved and wonder-working saints of the Russian Orthodox Church. Serving for over fifty years at the Andrew's Cathedral in Kronstadt near St. Petersburg, he became a spiritual father to millions across Russia and beyond.

Saint John was renowned for his extraordinary gift of healing, his fervent celebration of the Divine Liturgy, and his tireless ministry to the poor and sick of Kronstadt. He established charitable institutions, schools, and workshops for the destitute, and his home was always open to those in need. His spiritual diary, My Life in Christ, remains one of the most treasured works of Orthodox devotional literature.

Despite living in the world as a married priest, Saint John attained a degree of holiness and spiritual power rarely seen outside the monastic life. He reposed on December 20, 1908, and was glorified as a saint by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1990. His feast day is December 20.
