Saint Isidore

The name Isidore is shared by several venerated saints in the Orthodox Church, each known for their holiness, learning, and devotion to God.

Saint Isidore the Hieromonk is venerated for his monastic life of prayer, fasting, and service to the Church. Hieromonks — monks who are also ordained priests — hold a special place in Orthodox tradition as men who unite the contemplative life with sacramental ministry.

Saint Isidore of Pelusium (c. 360–450 AD) was an Egyptian monk and prolific letter-writer whose correspondence — over 2,000 letters survive — addressed theological, moral, and pastoral questions of his day. He was a disciple of Saint John Chrysostom and is venerated as a Father of the Church. His feast day is February 4.
