Saint Euthymius the Great

Saint Euthymius the Great (377–473 AD) was one of the most revered desert fathers of Palestine, venerated throughout the Orthodox world as a great monastic founder and wonder-worker. Born in Armenia, he felt called to the monastic life from an early age and eventually settled in the Judean desert near Jerusalem, where he established a lavra that became a major center of Orthodox monasticism.

Saint Euthymius was known for his extraordinary gifts of healing, prophecy, and spiritual discernment. He played a significant role in defending Orthodox Christology during the turbulent period following the Council of Chalcedon, helping to bring many back to the true faith. Countless pilgrims and monks sought his counsel, and his community grew into one of the most influential monasteries in the Holy Land.

He reposed peacefully at the age of 96, and his relics were enshrined at his monastery. His feast day is celebrated on January 20.
