Saint Arsenie Boca

Saint Arsenie Boca (1910–1989) was a Romanian Orthodox monk, priest, painter, and spiritual father widely venerated as one of the greatest saints of 20th-century Romania. Born Zian Boca in Transylvania, he entered monastic life and became known for his extraordinary gifts of clairvoyance, healing, and spiritual counsel, drawing thousands of pilgrims to his monastery at Prislop.

Father Arsenie was a prolific iconographer who painted the celebrated frescoes of Drăgănescu Church, a masterwork of modern Orthodox sacred art. He endured years of persecution and imprisonment under the Communist regime for his faith and his influence over the Romanian people, yet he never ceased his ministry of prayer and spiritual direction.

Though not yet formally canonized at the time of his repose, Saint Arsenie Boca is beloved throughout Romania and the Orthodox world as a confessor and wonder-worker. His feast day is celebrated on November 28.
