He spent the rest of his life in Russia, where he worked tirelessly to correct errors in Russian liturgical texts and to promote genuine Orthodox learning. Despite his invaluable contributions, he was twice condemned by Russian church councils on charges that were largely politically motivated, and he spent many years in monastic imprisonment.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSaint Maximus the Greek is venerated as a confessor and a great enlightener of Russia. He was glorified as a saint by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1988. His feast day is January 21, shared with Saint Maximus the Confessor.
